Preserve the Pensions seeks to preserve and digitize 7.2 million pages of War of 1812 Pension Records with the help of the genealogy community.
The bicentennial of what’s been called “America’s Second Revolution” began on June 18, 2012 and over the next three years, the public will turn its attention towards key anniversary events including the Burning of the White House and the Writing of the Star Spangled Banner.
What better time than now to also highlight the importance of saving the War of 1812 Pension Files? Our community has a proven track record of winning previous document preservation battles and we will win this fight.
Thankfully we have partners such as the Federation of Genealogical Societies, the National Archives, fold3 and Ancestry.com who have generously donated time, money and resources. But event with this level of support we can’t do it alone.
Stay tuned here at the Preserve the Pensions blog for updates, success stories of researchers using the War of 1812 Pension Files and more.
The facebook link said volunteers should contact you through this link. I could not find anything about what opportunities were available. Susan
Susan, thank you so much for contacting us! We have a variety of opportunities available, but left the message rather vague in the hopes that more people would ask questions.
We have room on the committee for marketing, social media, research, blogging, direct outreach to historical and genealogical societies and associations, and much, much more.
If there is something that particularly interests you, please let me know.
Thank you so very much! I look forward to discussing this with you and finding a good fit!

I am the treasurer of the Nebraska chapter of the United States Daughters of 1812. Our chapter would like to donate money to the Preserve the Pensions, War of 1812 project. We would like to donate with a check. Would you please tell me who to make the check out to, and email me the address of where to send the check? Also, you might want to include an address on your website’s donation page.
Thanks,
Sharon

I donated last year and am planning to donate again this year. My question is – are these donations tax deductable for yearlyl tax purposes? This is such a worthy endeavor; I do appreciate this work.
Hi Terry, thank you for your continued support! Yes, you can deduct these donations each year that you contribute.
Hello,
I tried to donate, but my new credit card has an expiration date of 2021. That date is not available on the donation site. Just thought that you should be aware so you could change that.
Thanks,
Jane
Thank you, Jane, we’ve notified our webmaster of this error – appreciate the heads up!
What is the status of the imaging these files? Is there a timeline or schedule for the imaging? I am interested in the imaging of VA files. They are up to “M”; when we might we see “N” through “S” files?
Hi. Thanks to all of You who funded this “Preserve the Pensions: War of 1812″ Project! Our history is so very important.
Today’s July 10, 2017 (Monday). I’m checking Fold3 and some digitized pensions for veterans who served in the 34th Regiment of Beall’s Maryland Militia are missing. Have all War of 1812 pension files for ALL military men for ALL the States been digitized and acquired by and provided free to the American Public on Fold3? I’m mainly interested in the Cooks (Cookes) – Benjamin(e) and Nathan of Md.
Thanks again for your energy, time and GENEROSITY ! ! !
